A message from MSVU President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Joël Dickinson:
I write today to denounce in the strongest terms the hatred that is being rallied at the anti-LGBTQ protests that are expected across Canada tomorrow (Sept. 20) – events taking place under the guise of “protecting our children.”
Mount Saint Vincent University stands unequivocally with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
We prioritize rational, evidence-based argument, not the fear-based and hate-filled rhetoric of those who seek to silence queer-inclusive education (though, let’s be clear: these protests are about much more than that).
With incidents of anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate on the rise around the world, we have to rise up more loudly and take up more space. I call on all my colleagues to post similar messages of solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Let’s flood all feeds with these messages.
And let’s check in on those whose sense of safety is being threatened through these hateful actions.
All people deserve to live in peace – without threat of harassment, discrimination and violence because of who they are or who they love.
