We believe that diversity enriches the communities in which we live and work. The Mount celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment where people from every background, ethnicity, culture, religion, sexual orientation, gender and gender identity, age and ability is treated with dignity and respect.
The Mount offers a number of benefits and perks as reflected in our four categories of commitment.
Commitment to Lifelong Learning
As an education institution, we are strong supporters of continuing learning opportunities for our staff as well as our families. Employees become eligible for tuition fee waivers for undergraduate and graduate credit courses at the Mount following six months of continuous employment and by meeting all the normal admission requirements to one of our programs. The full cost of tuition will be waived at the time of registration. As for your immediate family (spouse or children), the base tuition fee will be reduced by 50% on a reimbursement basis. Other conditions will apply, so do make yourself aware of the Employee Tuition Fee Reduction Policy on the Intranet.
All employees may enjoy full borrowing privileges from the library located in the E. Margaret Fulton Communication Centre. Simply provide your employee number to receive a library card.
Commitment to a Community Culture
The President and Vice-President and all senior managers have made a priority to know the staff at the Mount. In the Fall there will be a meet and greet with new employees and senior management to introduce each other and begin what is bound to be a very positive working relationship.
The Mount News for faculty and staff is shared weekly. This newsletter lets everyone in our community know of our good news and come together often as a community to celebrate through small and large events. Human Resources also shares news and information with facuty and staff through our Human Resources Intranet.
Child care at the Mount is superbly delivered and is in high demand. Having your child close by when you are at work makes your day a little less stressful and makes the Mount feel more like home. The Child Study Centre’s professional and caring staff specialize in early childhood education. Programming is developed based on a self-discovery approach to learning. Full-time child care is available for children ages two to five; part-time child care is available for children ages three to five. There is a high demand and you can add your child to a waitlist for an opening. Visit the Child Study Centre for more information.
Commitment to Health and Wellness
The Fitness Centre at the Mount boasts top of the line equipment, training facilities, fitness instruction and clubs which are all available to staff at a significantly reduced annual fee. A facility membership includes unlimited use of the gymnasium and the weight room as well as half price fitness classes and instructional classes such as Karate, Yoga, Tae Kwon Do, Salsa and Swing-Latin dance. Discover the benefits of our Fitness Centre, get in shape and have fun with your colleagues and students!
The Mount’s Health Office provides health services to all Mount students, staff and faculty, in a caring and confidential environment. We have doctors and nurses available to you during regular working hours. No one is turned away. Staff are welcome to visit the health office on an as-needed basis throughout the year.
The cafeterias and other food outlets on campus offer a variety of healthy choices for your convenience. Fresh fruit, salads, and low-fat options are everywhere. Chartwells has recently been contracted to provide food services and will continue the tradition of employing dietetic interns from our own Applied Human Nutrition program to create and maintain healthy menu options.
You will be glad to know that campus is closed throughout the December holiday period. We hope all our employees enjoy a stress-free holiday time without dipping into your own valuable vacation time.
Commitment to Accessibility
The city transit service includes a bus stop in front of the campus with a crosswalk for safe travel. Several Metro Transit bus routes stop here providing many scheduling options for commuters. Parking spaces are available to staff who wish to buy a year-long pass or pay at a parking meter. You can find all the information about parking at the Mount through our Security Office.
Indoor tunnel walk-ways connect buildings while many beautiful trails lead us around campus outside. All buildings are wheelchair accessible and sidewalks are kept clear throughout campus year-round.
