How do these skills support other aspects of learning?
Cultural Studies is not limited to any one particular field of study, while a lot of the material used can be unique to our department the lenses certainly are not. In discussions students often bring up knowledge learned in other departments, skills and knowledge learned in History may help to put context to the time and space surrounding a topic, Psychology might add context to the thought process of a main character in a Speculative Fiction novel, Sociology might add context to the world with which the author was creating a story in. While outside ideas may lend to furthering our discussions within Cultural Studies, these discussions and ways of thinking also work in reverse as well. When studying in other fields the knowledge application and understanding of lenses can aid in discussion as well as knowledge absorbed. All the above skills are extremely valuable in other fields of study as well.
