French as Second Language Bursaries

We have 7 $3000 bursaries to give out for the 2025-26 academic year!

Eligible students are those who are taking 5 out of 10 courses in French at MSVU from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2026.  French must not already be your first language.

Eligibility criteria:

To receive a bursary for postsecondary studies in French as a second language, one must:

. Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
. Have English as the first official language spoken;
. Study full time in a Canadian institution during the current year;
. Have completed their secondary school studies in an English-language institution and graduated from this institution;
. Demonstrate that they have sufficient knowledge of French to be able to study in that language;
. Intend to pursue full-time studies in a college or undergraduate university program in Canada, to take at least 50% of their courses or, if it is less than 50%,  participate in related activities (placements and training activities in the community) in French.
Note:     Special consideration will be given to students facing financial challenges and those who come from under-represented groups.

For 2025-2026 academic year, applications start on May 1st and close on May 15th, 2025.

To apply, please register for 2025-2026 courses, fill out the pre-screening form , and then contact Dr. Alexandra Tsedryk, Chair of the Modern Languages Department, to let her know you have completed this step (alexandra.tsedryk@msvu.ca). She will then explain what to do next.
