MSVU Complaints Process

MSVU is committed to providing an environment where people can thrive, where they can feel fulfilled in their work, play, and interpersonal relationships, and where everyone is respected. When situations arise that affect personal wellbeing and safety, all MSVU community members have options to seek support and conflict resolution.

Applicable Policies

MSVU has a number of policies that support a safe, harassment-free learning and working environment.

For situations that involve harassment and discrimination, including sexual harassment, any MSVU community member can seek advice or make formal or informal complaints under the Anti-Harassment and Discrimination Policy.

If the situation involves sexualized violence, any MSVU community member can seek advice or make formal or informal complaints under the Policy Against Sexual Violence.

For concerns about student behaviour that falls outside of those two policies, MSVU community members can initiate a complaint under the Non-Academic Discipline Policy.

All of these policies use a trauma-informed approach that allows the person bringing the complaint forward to decide whether to proceed with informal or formal processes, and include the possibility of putting interim measures in place to ensure personal safety and prevent retaliation.

If you are unsure how to proceed to address your situation, please contact the Harassment and Discrimination Advisor (respect.advisor@msvu.ca) or the Associate Vice-President, Student Experience (ose@msvu.ca) to discuss your options.

If you feel your safety is at imminent risk, please contact Security at the emergency line 902 457 6111 to report the situation.
