Mount Saint Vincent University extends a hearty congratulations to Mary Simon, Canada’s next Governor General. Ms. Simon received an honorary degree from MSVU in 2013. In her address, she encouraged grads to create positive change in the world. “The values of integrity, honesty, determination, and working through adversity served me well.”
Ms. Simon, who is from Nunavik in Northern Québec, is the first Indigenous person appointed to the role of Governor General. A former Canadian diplomat who served as Canada’s Ambassador for Circumpolar Affairs, Ms. Simon has long been an advocate for Canadian Inuit and Indigenous peoples.
