Government Student Loans – Canadian Students
The Government of Canada works with provincial government loan offices to offer students loan and grant funding to assist them throughout their post-secondary career. Repayable loans and non-repayable grants are based upon financial need (i.e. income) and students must apply annually for funding. Loan applications are available as of May 1st in NS (and later for some other provinces) for the study in the Fall/Winter. Students should apply 6-8 weeks before classes start to ensure funding. Canada/Provincial Government Student Loans are not available to International students.
Please note that Non-degree programs are generally not eligible for the Canada Student Loans. Call your provincial loan office to ask for details before applying.
U.S. Government Students Loans
Students who are Citizens or Permanent Residents of the U.S. may apply for a Direct Loan through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. Students must be registered in a degree program. Students in any online or correspondence programs (including registration in one of these courses) are not eligible for U.S. government loan funding. Contact the Financial Aid Coordinator to apply.
