Student Refugee Program (SRP)
In 2007, the Mount WUSC local committee held a student referendum in support of the SRP. A remarkable 93% of Mount students voted in favour of the program. This year, the Mount welcomes the seventh student sponsored through WUSC . The WUSC local committee holds fundraising and awareness events each semester to bring a refugee student to MSVU each year. Shine A Light: Solar Powered Lamps in Refugee Camps
Shine a light campaign focuses on girl-child education in refugee camps by raising funds to provide solar powered lamps to enable girls study at night. Between domestic chores and taking care of younger siblings, many girls in refugee camps only find time to study after dark because there is no electricity.
The Mount WUSC LC held a coffee house on campus to spread awareness and raise money for the shine a light campaign. We had light painting set-up, baked goods and coffee as well as some performances. we raised a total $315. Great job everyone!
