Congratulations to Julia Kokonis and Abbey MacLeod (pictured above), who will participate in the 17th season of the Female Apprentice Coach Program (FACP)! Julia graduated from Guelph University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Nutrition, and is currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Applied Human Nutrition program at MSVU. She is also an assistant coach of the MSVU women’s basketball team, and will be mentored by head coach Mark Forward. Abbey graduated from MSVU in 2017 with a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Strategic Human Resource Management. She is now a member of the MSVU Student Recruitment team, and an assistant coach for the MSVU women’s soccer team. Abbey will be mentored by Danielle Cyr, an MSVU alum and head coach of the MSVU women’s soccer team. Danielle also developed and leads a program called ‘Developing Future Leaders’ that will support the FACP.
The goal of the FACP, which is funded by Sport Canada, is to increase access for young women to coach at a post-secondary competitive level, provide high level quality coaching mentorship, and support their professional development to facilitate their continued pursuit of coaching. In the program’s 16-year history, 252 female apprentices have been supported.
