Dr. Ramona Lumpkin, President and Vice-Chancellor of the Mount, was recognized for her lasting contributions to the field of Education and Research at the 24th Progress Women of Excellence Awards hosted in Halifax on November 6, 2013.
As the only woman president of a university in Atlantic Canada, Dr. Lumpkin was honoured for her leadership in shaping the future of the Mount, for her advocacy for equal access to education, and for her commitment to advancing the role of women in higher education.
In total, 19 inspiring women, including twice Mount grad Theresa Rath, were celebrated at this year’s event across a wide range of field including Arts and Culture, Communications and Public Affairs, and Entrepreneurship. Dr. Lumpkin and fellow recipients join a prestigious group of past winners including current and former Mount faculty, board members, alumna, and past presidents.
Presented by the Canadian Progress Club Halifax Cornwallis, the Women of Excellence Awards Dinner is an annual event celebrating award recipients and raising funds in support of Phoenix, an organization providing long-term support for at-risk and homeless youth. Over the last 24 years, the event has raised more than $1 million.
