Big congratulations to the MSVU Mystics Women’s Basketball team on winning the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) 2025 Basketball Championship this past weekend, hosted by the UNBSJ Seawolves.
From the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association: “The MSVU Mystics are the 2025 ACAA Champions after defeating the Holland College Hurricanes 72-62 in a hard-fought battle on March 2, 2025, at the G. Forbes Elliot Athletics Centre. The Mystics used a dominant third quarter to pull away and held off a late push by Holland to secure the title.”
The Mystics Women’s Basketball team had a tremendous 2024-2025 season. They now head to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association national championships in Fredericton hosted by St. Thomas University from March 12 to 15.
A very impressive Mystics Men’s Basketball team went undefeated (18-0) right up to the championship game in Saint John this past weekend. Going into the final, they were ranked second in the country among CCAA men’s teams. While they put up an excellent fight, the UNBSJ Seawolves came out the winners in the championship match.
There were several MSVU names on the list of ACAA 2024-2025 basketball award winners as announced this past weekend, including:
- Marley Curwin and Amanda Pearcey: named to the Women’s Basketball First Team All Conference.
- Celine Sterckel: named to the Women’s Basketball Second Team All Conference.
- Danny DePalma: named Men’s Basketball coach of the year!
- Jaydan Smith: named Men’s Basketball Player of the Year.
- Jaxon Smith: named Men’s Basketball Dyrick McDermott Defensive Player of the Year.
- Isaac Matheson and Jaydan Smith: named to the Men’s Basketball First Team All Conference.
- Jaxon Smith: named to the Men’s Basketball Second Team All Conference.
