A message from the President
It is with great pleasure that I present to you MSVU’s new Strategic Plan: Strength Through Community (2021-2028).
I also encourage you to watch this strategic plan introduction video:
Following many months of consultation across our diverse citizen groups, and a pause to thoughtfully consider implications of timely world issues – including the COVID-19 pandemic and crises of race-based violence and oppression – what has emerged is a solid plan that will shape our university for the next seven years.
This plan will challenge us to reach new goals while being true to our purpose of being a university that fosters the education of women and other engaged thinkers, committing to social justice, and advancing equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility. It will guide us to build, in partnership with community, stronger societies through enhanced access to education.
Indeed, our new strategic plan is grounded in community. So, it is particularly fitting that we launch it on Caritas Day. For those of you who are not familiar, Caritas Day is a means of paying forward the tremendous support provided to the Mount family in 1951 when a fire destroyed Mount Saint Vincent College. Since then, on the last Wednesday in January, classes are paused to create an opportunity to give back through community service. Our new strategic plan makes clear the strength of our continuing commitment to community.
Sincere thanks to all those who contributed to this plan. Your input has been invaluable in identifying the themes and objectives at its core:
- Transformative teaching and learning
- Research, scholarly work and professional activity
- Equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility
- Truth and Reconciliation
- Community engagement
- A healthy and safe university campus for all
- Operational excellence and sustainability
Our next steps will see us creating operational plans towards the objectives and indicators of success detailed in the plan. I encourage you to join in these discussions. And I encourage you to be in touch should you have any feedback along the way.
Achieving the goals within this plan is a shared responsibility. Doing so will propel us forward in the true definition of community.
