Office 365 is a collection of apps and cloud services that you can use to be productive across a variety of devices from just about anywhere. It works in conjunction with desktop versions of Office, and provides you with 1TB of OneDrive storage and 100GB of email storage, along with online versions of Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It also includes 5 personal licenses of Office 365 that students, staff, and faculty can install for free on their Windows and Mac computers and a variety of mobile devices.

Where Is Office 365 Data Stored

Almost all of the data you store in Office 365 is located in Microsoft data centers located in Canada, but some Office 365 apps do store data outside of Canada. The apps that store data outside of Canada include Flow, Forms, Planner, PowerApps, Stream, Sway, and Yammer. Office 365 is Microsoft’s internet-based office suite which includes all of the Office applications you have been using over the years. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook are available through Office 365. Office 365 includes online versions of these Office apps as well as online storage (OneDrive), communication tools (Microsoft Teams) and the ability to collaborate on projects in real time.

Faculty & Staff can continue to use Outlook on their desktops for email & calendars. If your email has been migrated to Office 365 and you normally have access to shared mailboxes or calendars that you would also like to access through the web, there are some additional steps to perform first.

Please note, you do not need to install anything onto your office computer. Office 365 is an additional service and it works in conjunction with your current version of office. Please do not try to download Office 365 onto your office computer. The 5 free Office licenses that come with Office 365 are for your personal devices. All software upgrades to MSVU computers should be requested through contacting the IT&S Help Desk.

Office 365 is a service offered by Microsoft including all of the Office suite of applications, plus many more online features. It is available on almost all devices.

All stand-alone versions of the Office apps are included: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Office 365 also features Microsoft Teams with video conferencing and OneNote. Mobile versions of the Office apps are available for both Apple and Android devices. OneDrive for online storage and browser-based Office apps on both PC and Mac are available

Yes, anything you save online will be stored on an encrypted server and can only be accessed by signing in with your Mount network credentials. Your data will be housed in Microsoft’s Canadian datacenters in Ontario and Quebec.

The core components (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) of Office 365 will work on almost any device, including phones and tablets. Microsoft continuously updates every version of Office 365 for all devices to ensure maximum compatibility.

Office 365 allows any user to install Office apps on up to 5 devices (includes PC, Mac, tablet and mobile). You can also access the Office 365 online apps from any browser on any computer with an internet connection.

Yes. Office 365 functions almost identically to previous versions of Office. It requires you to authenticate once using your Mount network information; after that it will function just as any other version of Office whether you are on or offline.

Yes, Office 365 is 100% compatible with older versions of Office.

No, as long as you have downloaded and activated your apps previously, you can use Office without an internet connection.

Your account will be deleted one year after your last course registration. This also applies to graduates who have not registered for a course after graduation. You will receive a notification via email approximately two weeks prior to your account being deleted. Once your account is deleted, you will no longer have access to your OneDrive. Please back up or save any files you may wish to keep. You will still be able to use Office 365 apps which are downloaded to your device for up to 30 days, then they will go into read-only mode. Faculty and staff accounts are deleted on the last day of employment at the Mount.

Yes. You can still open your archives. However, online email storage will be increased to 100 GB. You may find you no longer need to archive your messages as they will be readily available on the mail server.

OneDrive is Microsoft’s online storage solution. It functions similarly to DropBox and other online storage apps. Files uploaded to OneDrive will be visible to only you however you can easily share files with others. Once you have signed in to Office 365 you are free to use OneDrive at your own discretion while registered for courses and/or employed at the Mount. You do not have to use OneDrive.

Each user will get 1000 GB (1 TB) of storage space.

Yes. Your files will not be uploaded or shared unless you specify otherwise.

Microsoft claims to have a server uptime of about 99.99% per year.
