Mount Saint Vincent University is committed to protecting the rights of everyone on campus while ensuring a professional, respectful and safe campus environment. We value respect for others and believe that safety and security are the responsibility of everyone on campus.

The Mount’s safety and security program includes a dedicated security team providing 24/7 service, as well as a comprehensive Emergency Response Plan in the event of a serious incident such as fire, severe weather or threats to personal safety.

The Mount is committed to sexual violence prevention and providing a trauma informed, survivor-centred response. Please read our Policy Against Sexual Violence and familiarize yourself with the resources available to help support victims/survivors and those affected by sexual violence.

Non-emergencies:

Reporting an incident to Campus Security

All incidents are reported through campus security at 902.457.6111. Reports will be investigated and recorded by Campus Security or a delegated authority. You will be asked to provide the following information when reporting an incident to Campus Security, police and other emergency responders:

  • your name
  • your location (be as specific as possible)
  • your phone number
  • description of the event.

Emergency phones are strategically located across campus and connect directly to Security in the Assisi Information Centre, which is staffed 24/7.

Exterior emergency phones are painted yellow and are identified with emergency phone signs illustrated on the campus map. They are located in the following areas:

  • Bottom of staircase between Seton and Evaristus
  • Front, north corner of Evaristus near Pay and Display
  • On the wall outside 1st floor entrance of Westwood
  • On a pole in the EMF back parking lot
  • At the walkway between the top of College Rd and Birch 5

Interior information/emergency phones are located in the following areas:

  • Seton Academic Centre lobby
  • Next to each elevator on Seton 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors
  • Next to the front entrance of RBC Link (between Seton and the EMF)
  • Inside the main entrance of Rosaria Student Centre
  • 3rd floor hallway outside the Bookstore in Rosaria Student Centre
  • Inside all elevators

The MSVU SAFE app is a free mobile campus safety app that connects you to a number of safety and security tools from the palm of your hand. It will send you important safety alerts and provide instant access to campus safety tools including advanced location sharing, offline-ready emergency plans, campus maps, real-time reporting, and more.

If there is an emergency on campus (or if the University is closed because of a storm) you need to know as soon as possible. A text, email or voice message with information on what to do in an emergency can be sent through Mount Alert, our mass notification system. Tell us how best to reach you by clicking on the personalized link sent to your Mount email or contact the IT&S Helpdesk for assistance at 902.457.6538 or helpdesk@msvu.ca.

Travel Safe Service: Members of the Mount community who have a medical condition, have safety/security concerns, or are carrying parcels can call 902.457.6412 to have a Mount Security officer shuttle or accompany them to various locations on campus.

Parking permits and assistance: Whether you need to purchase a permit, need help finding a parking space or wish to make a parking complaint, we’re here to help. More info about all things parking-related at: msvu.ca/parking

Violence Prevention Training: You need to know exactly what to do if a violent incident occurs on campus. Learn about the RUN/HIDE/FIGHT protocol and other safety measures by completing the violence prevention training provided online by the Mount. Just log into Moodle to access the training.
