Congratulations to the Mount teams and committee members who took part in the first Halifax Metro University Cancer Relay for Life this past weekend. In addition to supporting an important cause, the Mount came home with some serious bragging rights. Raising more than $7,000, the Mount was awarded the honour of top national school. The title of top individual fundraiser went to Mount student Sarah Anderson, with top relay team fundraiser going to the Mount’s Bachelor of Education Team.
Mount students representing all three residence communities, the Business & Tourism program, the Bachelor of Education program, the English Society and Students’ Union were among the more than 200 students and campus members from the Mount, Dalhousie and St. Mary’s. Relayers spent 12 consecutive hours playing basketball, dancing, enjoying live performances, exercising, cheering and walking the relay track.
The relay, which was organized heavily in part by the Mount’s relay organizing committee led by relay co-chair Amy Seeton, is now set to become an annual tradition between the three universities. All funds raised went to the Canadian Cancer Society.
